Derrick Emsley, recognized by Forbes’ Top 30 Under 30 and Canada’s Top 40 Under 40, has been dedicated to environmental stewardship from a young age. At 16, he co-founded a tree-planting company that sold carbon credits, securing over $1 million in contracts and planting 150,000 trees. This led to the creation of tentree in 2012, where, as CEO, Derrick drives the vision for the brand, which plants ten trees for every product sold. tentree has since planted nearly 100 million trees. In 2021, Derrick co-founded veritree, a platform to monitor and verify global reforestation efforts.

David founded tentree, a clothing company that plants trees, in 2011 while studying at the University of Manoa in Hawaii. After earning a BBA in 2012, he expanded tentree to over 2,000 retail stores across Canada, the U.S., and Europe, resulting in 100M+ trees planted. In 2022, David shifted focus to veritree, aiming to improve transparency in tree planting for consumers and organizations, and inspire more restorative businesses. He’s been recognized as a Clean 50 emerging leader and E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year for social impact.

Stephen began his digital career in SMB internet marketing and web development, transitioning into cloud-based business productivity solutions for SMBs using Microsoft 365 and Google G Suite. He later co-founded tentree, where he managed the IT systems, ecommerce platforms, and the Tree Registration Program. Stephen's work evolved into developing innovative ground-based technologies that support NGOs' global tree-planting initiatives.

Dr. Kathleen Buckingham brings nearly 20 years of expertise in nature-based solutions to her role as Director of Science at Veritree. With a PhD in Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford, and postgraduate degrees in Data Science, Technology and Innovation and Environmental Sustainability both from the University of Edinburgh, Kathleen combines her knowledge to create scalable approaches to measuring impact. Kathleen previously led research for the World Resources Institute's Global Restoration Initiative and acted as an Advisor to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism.

Vik has 20+ years of experience within technology companies and supports veritree’s Engineering, Revenue and Science teams.

Previously, he was CMO at Clearly, a division of EssilorLuxottica. He was accountable for the P&L, product, and market share growth. Before Clearly, he was on Facebook’s Canadian executive team as Head of Western Canada.

Vik started his career at Microsoft and has also held strategy and marketing roles at Mobify and Monexa. These SaaS startups were acquired by Salesforce and Oracle, respectively.

He's an adjunct professor at UBC and holds a BSc from the University of Waterloo.
